Paycare Testimonial
ZEN Communications

“We’re a small (but perfectly formed) strategic PR and communications agency based in Telford, Shropshire.  Launched 13 years ago by our MD Fliss, our overarching ethos has always been focused on looking after our most valuable assets – our team.

We absolutely believe that if we look after our team in a completely holistic way, not only will they be physically and mentally at their very best – but they’ll also be fit, healthy and motivated to bring their very best to the agency and to our clients.  Win:win:win

As a business, we’ve been company-paid, corporate Policyholders since 2016 and for us – joining was an absolute no-brainer.  Providing each member of our team with the opportunity to claim back on everyday healthcare costs such as optical and dental treatments ensures that our team are getting the regular check-ups they (and their families) need.

Not only that, but having access to a whole range of additional services such as specialist consultations, complementary therapies, and health screening is also a significant benefit to the team, and means that they’re able to get the expert advice and guidance that they may need, but which they may not otherwise have been able to.

With most members of the Zen team parents to young children, having the opportunity to speak to a medical professional in the evening, middle of the night, or at weekends via the MyPocketGP app is absolutely invaluable.   And knowing that other support is available – from a 24/7 confidential helpline and counselling service to discounts off everyday purchases – gives us as an employer peace of mind that we’re supporting our team to ensure optimum care of their physical, mental, and financial health.

Looking after our team in this way is a hugely effective retention tool meaning we keep the amazing talent that we have, and we’re also able to attract additional talent to the business – people want to work for us because we genuinely care about each and every individual here.  And, it’s helped us from an external perspective too.  Our commitment to our team’s health and wellbeing was instrumental in us winning the EiBA Best Place to Work award in 2017, and more recently has seen us named finalists in the Wellbeing category of the SME National Business Awards and Best Boss category in the national Women in Business Awards.

In addition to all of the services that we have access to through being Policyholders, we’ve also benefitted hugely from the dedicated Mental Health First Aid training that Paycare launched in 2019

Each member of the team has either undertaken the half day or the two-day intensive course.  From the employee perspective, the content delivered by Paycare’s Wellbeing Manager Kerry B Mitchell has helped our team identify when they may be feeling anxious or stressed, and has provided encouragement to them to talk openly about their mental health.  From an employer’s perspective, it’s certainly given us the confidence to initiate conversations around mental health and has provided us with the vital tools to support our teams when they may need it most.

Not only is Paycare a wonderful organisation that is completely aligned with us from the perspective of being a completely people-centred business, but the services and support it offers to us as a business are hugely relevant – and greatly valued by us all.”
