Reflecting on Their First Year with Paycare

As Wolverhampton Girls’ High School approaches the end of their first year with Paycare, we caught up with the team to see how the scheme has been supporting their staff and contributing to their overall wellbeing strategy.

The school, a leading educational institution in the West Midlands, has always placed a strong emphasis on looking after its employees. With their core focus on delivering exceptional education, they recognise that the health and wellbeing of their team plays a vital role in achieving that mission.

Why Paycare?
The school first heard about Paycare through a former employee who had experienced the benefits of the scheme through their voluntary 4Work For You programme. Seeking a simple and effective way to enhance staff wellbeing, they saw moving to an employer paid version of the Paycare plan a sensible and valuable addition to their existing support offerings.

A Well-Rounded Approach to Wellbeing
Alongside Paycare, the school provides access to an enhanced Employee Assistance Programme and a membership to an independent wellbeing hub for all employees. Paycare is made available to all staff if they choose to have it, allowing them to access health benefits tailored to their individual needs.

Seamless Setup and Support
“Our Account Manager, Stephen, has been fantastic,” says Gemma Mahiques, HR and Executive Assistant. “He responds quickly to any queries and supported our onsite launch with a presentation and a lunchtime drop-in session for staff.”
The plan was easy to implement, with all the information and resources provided upfront. Staff have also found the MyPeople platform useful, which helps Paycare’s customers manage their plan internally, particularly with the downloads, wellbeing posters and calendar being readily available.

Impact on the team and wider HR Strategy
Staff wellbeing is a key priority for the school, and Paycare helps support this by offering a practical, valued benefit. The feedback from employees has been overwhelmingly positive regarding the ease of submitting claims and receiving reimbursements. Any minor issues were quickly addressed and resolved.

Simplicity and Value
Administrating the scheme has been straightforward. All members are enrolled at Level 1, with the option to upgrade or include partners via Direct Debit. “It’s a great thing to offer staff, with a good range of benefits—and excellent value for money,” the school commented.

Would They Recommend Paycare?
Absolutely. “It’s great value for money and a brilliant addition to our staff wellbeing offer. Stephen and the team are always easy to contact and happy to help.”
