Training sessions which could potentially help attendees save lives are taking place at Paycare House.

The Suicide Awareness and Safety Planning half-day courses will be led by experts from The Kaleidoscope+ Group, and will run from 10am to 2pm on Wednesday 30th March, Thursday 31st March or Friday 1st April at our headquarters in George Street.

Each session is open to leaders of businesses and community groups within the city, who can attend for free thanks to grant funding Wolverhampton City Council received from the Better Mental Health Fund.

The charity was established in Sandwell in 1973 and provides mental health support across the UK, including residential and independent living services; 24-hour text crisis support; bereavement support; activity groups promoting inclusion, wellness and self-care; and much more.

A Kaleidoscope+ spokesperson said:

There is a huge stigma that surrounds suicide, making it really difficult for those who are struggling with these thoughts to open up and get the support that they desperately need.

“This course will help you to approach the topic in an understanding way so you are able to have an open and honest conversation with someone and support them in seeking help.”

Our Director Anthony Burns added:

“The Kaleidoscope+ Group is a local charity which champions wellbeing and good mental health, helping young people, families and businesses too – so there is a natural fit between our two organisations.

“After we met the CEO Monica Shafaq a while ago, we quickly realised that we were organisations with a shared vision: we simply want to make people happy and healthy.

“So we are delighted to be able to support them when and where we can, and to provide the space at Paycare House for the upcoming courses to take place.”
