The week of 27th November did not begin with the usual Monday feeling for four of us here at Paycare. Instead myself, Bonnie, Ben and Blahar swapped our laptops for paintbrushes, and skipped the usual weekend de-brief to get to work.
The four of us chose to use one of the two volunteer days Paycare gives all employees to help out with a renovation project at local charity, The Way – Wolverhampton Youth Zone. Paycare is a Founder Patron of The Way, a partnership between Wolverhampton City Council and local businesses established to support the needs of young people within the city.
The Way, set up in 2016, has some amazing facilities including an indoor climbing wall, recording studio, full-size sports hall, dance studio and boxing training room, with over 20 activities held every night. The quiet room is one of their most valuable spaces, used for mentoring sessions, and was in desperate need of some TLC, so the four of us set to work with the paint and rollers.
Billy James, Mentoring Lead at The Way, told us “this room is so important as it is the first place where the mentees meet their mentors, and it is essential that the space is calm and tranquil. Since the Paycare Team came in we have a bright and welcoming room which our mentees and mentors enjoy spending time in.”
Paycare is a great place to work and every day brings a new challenge, but it was fantastic to get stuck into something a bit different. Knowing what a huge difference this will make to help many, many young people in and around Wolverhampton made it extra special.
